To a solution of (E)-ethyl 3-(4-((E)-2-phenyl-1-(1-(tetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-yl)-1H-indazol-5-yl)but-1-en-1-yl)phenyl)acrylate (3.5 g, 6.9 mmol) in ethyl alcohol (69 mL), HCl (6 mL, 2M in diethyl ether) was added at room temperature. The resulting mixture was then heated at 70° C. for 2 h. Upon completion, the mixture was cooled down to room temperature and concentrated to give the crude product. This crude material was purified on a silica gel column eluted with 0-100% ethyl acetate in hexanes affording an off-white solid (2.5 g). 1H NMR (300 MHz, DMSO-d6): δ 13.10 (s, 1H), 8.08 (s, 1H), 7.69 (s, 1H), 7.53 (d, 1H), 7.48 (d, 1H), 7.39 (d, 2H), 7.27-7.11 (m, 6H), 6.89 (d, 2H), 6.45 (d, 1H), 4.20 (q, 2H), 2.43 (q, 2H), 1.22 (t, 3H), 0.87 (t, 3H); LCMS: 423 (M+H)+.
