Procedure
To a stirring solution of methyl 2-{8-amino-2-[(tert-butyl)oxycarbonyl]-1H,3H,4H,5H-benzo[e]azepin-5-yl}acetate (1 eq) in methylene chloride (0.1 M) was added 4-nitrobenzyl chloroformate (1.1 eq) and triethylamine (5 eq) at room temperature. After stirring for 5 hr, the reaction mixture was diluted with methylene chloride. The organic phase was washed with saturated sodium bicarbonate, brine, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by flash chromatography (20% EtOAc/Hexane). EI-MS m/z 514 (M+H)+.
