To a two-phase mixture of 30% K2CO3 solution (5 ml) and chloroform (5 mL) containing 276 mg of 4-fluorobenzamidine was added a solution of 468 mg of 2-bromo-4′-chloroacetophenone in chloroform (3 mL). After stirring for 1 hr, the reaction mixture was filtered. The white crystallinesolid was washed with distilled water and dried in a vacuum oven overnight to afford 2-(4-fluorophenyl)4-(4-chlorophenyl)imidazole (Compound 1).
