Sertraline base (the compound of Preparation AA, 200.2 mg) was dissolved in ethyl acetate (200 μL) in a 5 ml reaction vial. Glacial acetic acid (41.2 μL) was added to the sertraline base solution with stirring. An additional 500 μL of ethyl acetate was added to facilitate stirring. The reaction mixture was allowed to granulate at room temperature for five hours. The solids were filtered, washed with 10 mL of ethyl acetate and then dried in a vacuum oven at 40° C. for 20 hour. The yield was determined to be 16%. mp 126° C.
