Procedure

Sertraline free base (the compound of Preparation AA, 200.3 mg) was dissolved in ethyl acetate (800 μL, which had previous been saturated with water). L-aspartic acid (95.53 mg) was suspended in ethyl acetate (3 mL, which had previously been saturated with water). The aspartic acid suspension was added to the sertraline free base solution. The reaction mixture was stirred for 24 hours. The solids were filtered, washed with ethyl acetate saturated with water and then dried at 40° C. in a vacuum oven for 48 hours. The yield of sertraline L-aspartate was 96.4%. mp 247° C.
