Procedure
To a solution of 4′-fluoro-6-methoxy[1,1′-biphenyl]-3-carbaldehyde (5.00 g) in THF (80 ml) was added dropwise a solution (0.63; 44.8 ml) of isopropylmagnesium bromide in THF at 0° C., and the mixture was stirred for 1 h 45 min. To the reaction mixture was added saturated aqueous ammonium chloride solution and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate, washed with saturated brine and dried. The solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure and the residue was purified by column chomatography (eluent, hexane:ethyl acetate=6:1→2:1) to give the title compound (3.82 g) as a yellow oil.
