Procedure
A mixture of 1-[3,6-dimethyl-2-(2,4,6-trimethyl-phenoxy)-pyridin-4-yl]-propan-1-one (330 mg, 1.11 mmol), hydroxylamine hydrochloride (230.4 mg, 3.33 mmol), and sodium acetate (273 mg, 3.33 mmol) in ethanol (25 ml) was stirred at room temperature over a weekend. The mixture was concentrated to dryness, then diluted with water, and extracted with chloroform. The organic layer was separated, dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated to dryness to give 306 mg of a mixture of the title (E) and (Z)-isomers as a white solid.
