A mixture of 20% Pd(OH)2 on carbon (0.3 g) and 1-benzyl-4-carbethoxyamino-3,3-dimethylpiperidine (1.3 g, 4.48 mmol) in methanol (15 ml) was stirred in hydrogen atmosphere (1 atm.) at 30° C. for 3 hr. The catalyst was filtered off, washed with methanol and filtrate concentrated to dryness to afford 4-carbethoxyamino-3,3-dimethylpiperidine. Yield 0.8 g (90%), C10H20N2O2, m/z 201 (M+1).
