Procedure

3-(Trifluoromethoxy)acetophenone (2 g, 9.80 mmol) was reacted with selenium dioxide (1.63 g, 14.7 mmol) using the method described in Example 1 to give crude (3-trifluoromethoxyphenyl)oxoacetaldehyde as a yellow oil: m/z (ES+) 219.
