9-(β-D-arabinofuranosyl)-2-(1-butyne-1-yl)adenine [compound 3] in an amount of 2 g was dissolved in 30 mL of 50% methanol, 10 mg of 10% palladium carbon were added thereto and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 16 hours. The catalyst was filtered off, the filtrate was concentrated and the crystals separated out therefrom were collected. They were recrystallized from distilled water to give a compound 7 (1.95 g) as colorless needles: ps 9-(β-D-arabinofuranosyl)-2-butyladenine [compound 7]
