A mixture of 0.51 g of 2,2-bisfluoromethyl-6-trifluoromethyl-2H-1-benzopyran-4-carboxylic acid ethyl ester, 0.13 g of potassium hydroxide and 10 ml of ethyl alcohol was stirred at room temperature for 2 hours. The reaction mixture was combined with ice water and hydrochloric acid, and the precipitated crystals were filtered off to give 0.43 g of 2,2-bisfluoromethyl-6-trifluoromethyl-2H-1-benzopyran-4-carboxylic acid; m.p. 162-163° C.;
