Procedure
6-(Ethoxycarbonyl)-3-(2,4-dichlorobenzyl)-3,4-dihydro-2-methylquinazoline hydrochloride (0.68 g) in a mixture of a 10% aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (5 ml) and ethanol (10 ml) was stirred at 60° C. for 1 hr. After standing cool the reaction mixture, concentrated hydrochloric acid (5 ml) was added and the precipitate was collected by filtration. The precipitated was washed with toluene and 2-propanol and dried to give the objective compound (0.41 g) as white crystals.
