A mixture of 100 parts of α-(4-bromobutyl)-4-fluoro-α-(4-fluorophenyl)benzenemethanol and 714 parts of concentrated hydrochloric acid was stirred and refluxed for 5 hours. The reaction mixture was cooled and the product was extracted with 2,2'-oxybispropane. The extract was dried, filtered and evaporated, yielding 92 parts of 1,1'-(5-bromo-1-penten-1-ylidene)bis[4-fluorobenzene] as a residue (int. 50).
