A stirred solution of 2.57 g of 2-deoxy-2,2-difluoro-4,5,7-tris-O-(phenylmethyl)-D-arabino-3-heptulofuranosonic acid in 25 ml of 2,6-lutidine was refluxed for 2 hours and then concentrated. The residue was subjected to column chromatography on silica gel to give an oil, CMR δ 113.1 (triplet, J=247Hz, CF2).
