Reaction Steps
A solution of 3,5-dicarboethoxy-4-(m-nitrophenyl)-6-methyl-2-mercaptomethyl-1,4-dihydropyridine (mg 300), formaldehyde (37%); μl 90) and piperidine (μ87) in ethanol (ml 3) is stirred at 40° C. under nitrogen atmosphere, for 24 hrs. After evaporation at reduced pressure the residue is purified by chromatography (SiO2 9 g eluent diisopropyl ether/ hexane 60/40) to give 2-(N-piperidinylmethylthiomethyl)-3,5-dicarboethoxy-4-(m-nitrophenyl)-6-methyl-1,4-dihydropyridine as a yellow oil.
