1.4 g of 6-(6-cyano-2,2-dimethyl-2H-1-benzopyran-4-yl)-3-pyridinecarboxylic acid were dissolved in 200 ml of ethyl acetate and shaken under a hydrogen atmosphere overnight with 103 mg of 10% palladium-on-charcoal. The mixture was filtered and the filtrate was evaporated. There were obtained 680 mg of 6-(6-cyano-3,4-dihydro-2,2-dimethyl-2H-1-benzopyran-4-yl)-3-pyridinecarboxylic acid which was used without further purification.
