Procedure
A solution of 64 g of 4-(4-chlorophenoxy)-phenol and 80 g of α-bromocaproic acid ethyl ester in 100 ml of butanone was refluxed for 10 hours together with 100 g of potassium carbonate. After separation from the inorganic salts by filtration, the filtrate was concentrated to dryness, the ester formed was taken up in methylene chloride, the solution was repeatedly extracted with water and the purified product was isolated by evaporating the organic solvent. It was further purified by distillation under reduced pressure. 52 Grams of 4-(4-chlorophenoxy)-α-phenoxy-caproic acid ethyl ester boiling at 223° - 225°C under 3 mm Hg were obtained. ##SPC4##
