Procedure
To 0.76 g of 5-Amino-7-(3-tert-butoxycarbonylamino-3-methyl-1-pyrrolidinyl)-1-cyclopropyl-6-fluoro-1,4-dihydro-8-methyl-4-oxoquinoline-3-carboxylic acid, 1.1 ml of hydrochloric acid was added and then stirred at room temperature for 2 hours. To the reaction mixture, a solution of 0.89 g of potassium hydroxide in 1.8 ml of water was added under ice cooling and resulting mixture was neutralized with 10% hydrochloric acid to pH 8. The deposited crystals were collected by filtration and washed with water to give 0.33 g of the desired compound as yellow crystals. The crystals were subsequently recrystallized from a mixture of methylene chloride and methanol to afford 0.30 g of yellow crystals, m.p. 217°-221° C. were obtained.
