Procedure
A mixture of 8-bromooctanoic acid (26.4 g), thionyl chloride (40 ml) and acetonitrile (40 ml) was heated at 95° C. for 3 hours. The solvent was removed by distillation under vacuum and the residue purified by azeotropic distillation, using acetonitrile, to give 8-bromooctanoyl chloride.
