10.6 g of 4'-hydroxybiphenyl-4-carboxylic acid and 18.7 g of (+)-2-methylbutanol were heat-refluxed for 20 hours in benzene together with 1 ml of sulfuric acid. The mixture was subjected to filtration, condensation acid recrystallization to obtain 11.0 g of the objective product (yield: 83%).
