Procedure

3-Amino-7-benzyl-2-(3-methoxyphenacyl)-5-propyl-2H-pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidine-4,6(5H,7H)-dione (1.16 g) and p-toluenesulfonic acid (0.1 g) were dissolved in toluene (50 ml) and the solution was refluxed for 3 hours. The reaction solution was concentrated and to the concentrate was added methanol. Precipitating crystals were collected by filtration to obtain pale yellow crystals (0.83 g, 75%), m.p. 249°-250° C.
