A mixture of 3.11 grams of 2-(1-(3-nitrobenzylidene)-acetonyl)-2-oxo-1,3,2-dioxaphosphorinane and 2.48 grams of 2 -(N-benzyl-N-methylamino)ethyl3-aminocrotonate was dissolved in 30 ml of isopropanol and the mixture was heated to reflux for eight hours. The reaction solution was concentrated in vacuo and the residue was purified by subjecting to a column chromatography (silica gel, n-hexane-ethyl acetate). The resulting pale yellow oil (3.8 grams) was crystallized with ether and recrystallized from a mixture of ethyl acetate and ether to give 3.2 grams of 2-(N-benzyl-N-methylamino)ethyl 2,6-dimethyl-4-(3-nitrophenyl)-5-(2-oxo-1,3,2-dioxaphosphorinan- 2-yl)-1,4-dihydropyridine-3-carboxylate, pale yellow crystals, m.p. 139°-40° C.
