N-(α-methyl benzylidene)-p-nonyl aniline (III) (16.5 g) prepared by the procedure described in Example IIA was hydrogenated suing 5% Pd/C as the catalyst and 95% ethanol as the solvent. N-(α-methyl benzyl)-p-nonyl aniline (IV) was obtained by fractional distillation. IV had a boiling point of 180°-184° C. at 0.025 millimeter.
