Reaction Steps
N-(α-methyl benzylidene)-o-carbethoxyaniline (13 g) prepared by the procedure described in example XXVA was hydrogenated using 5% Pd/C as the catalyst and 95% ethanol as the solvent. N-(α-methyl benzyl)-o-carbethoxyaniline (XVI) (12 g) was obtained by fractional distillation. XVI had a boiling point of 168° C. at 1.4 millimeter.
