24.7 g (0.10 mole) of 2-chloro 3-(1,1-dimethyl-2-chloroethyl)aminocarbonylpyridine, prepared as described in Example 2c, are suspended in hexamethyldisilazane and the suspension is heated at reflux for 6 h (about 125° C.). The excess hexamethyldisilazane is evaporated under reduced pressure and the residue is distilled under high vacuum to give 16.27 g of 2-chloro 3-(4,4-dimethyl 2-oxazolinyl)pyridine.
