Reaction Steps
2.6 g of the ester from Example 1 and 0.8 g of potassium hydroxide in 20 ml of water and 20 ml of ethanol are stirred for 16 hours at room temperature. Thereafter, the mixture is diluted with water, acidified with concentrated hydrochloric acid and extracted by shaking with dichloromethane. Evaporating down gives 1.8 g of 5-isopropylaminocarbonyl-3-methylisoxazole-4-carboxylic acid as colorless crystals of melting point 86°-92° C. (compound No. 1004).
