Procedure

12.4 g (0.062 mol) of 2-t-butyl-2-(2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl)-oxirane, 5.1 g (0.074 mol) of triazole and 3 g (0.074 mol) of sodium hydroxide are dissolved in 60 ml of dimethylformamide and the mixture is stirred at 100° C. for 10 hours. For working up, the cooled reaction mixture is introduced into water and extracted with ethyl acetate, the organic phase is washed with water, dried over sodium sulphate and concentrated in vacuo and the residue is purified by column chromatography on silica gel (mobile phase: ethyl acetate/cyclohexane 3:1). 4.4 g (26% of theory) of 2,2-dimethyl-1-(2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl)-1-(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl-methyl)-propan-1-ol are obtained as an oil of refractive index nD20 1.4890;
