2.2 g (9.5 mmol, 1.2 eq) of 2,5-dibromopyridine are dissolved in 3 mL of an 8/2 mixture of dimethylformamide/2M potassium phosphate. 1.2 g (7.9 mmol, 1 eq) of N-methyl-3-aminophenylboronic acid are added along with 456 mg (0.39 mmol, 5 mol %) of tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium. The mixture is stirred for 3 hours at 90° C. The reaction is stopped by adding 30 mL of water and is then extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic phases are combined and dried over sodium sulfate. The solvents are evaporated and the residue is then chromatographed on silica gel (80/20 to 70/30 heptane/ethyl acetate). 1.07 g of [3-(5-bromopyrid-2-yl)phenyl]methylamine are obtained. Yield 52%.
