Procedure

To a solution of (S)-1-tert-butoxycarbonyl-3-hydroxypyrrolidine (7.7 g, 41 mmol) (Aldrich) in dichloromethane (130 mL) at 0° C. was added triethylamine (10.4 g, 103 mmol), and methanesulfonyl chloride (8 g, 70 mmol, Aldrich). The reaction mixture was stirred at 0° C. for 1 h, then at room temperature for 0.5 h. The mixture was poured into water, extracted with dichloromethane. The organic layer was separated, washed with water, brine, dried over MgSO4, and concentrated to give crude (S)-3-methanesulfonyloxy-pyrrolidine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester as a yellow oil (Yield 11 g, 100%).
