5.0 mmol of triethylamine and 1.0 mmol propanephosphonic acid cyclic anhydride [68957-94-8] (50% in ethyl acetate) are added to a solution of 1.0 mmol of (1-trityl-1H-imidazol-4-yl)methanol [33769-07-2] and 1.0 mmol of (tert-butyldimethylsilanyloxy)(4-cyanophenyl)acetic acid in 20 ml of dichloromethane. The reaction mixture is stirred at room temperature for 3 hours and diluted with dichloromethane. The phases are separated and the organic phase is washed with 1M HCl and brine, dried with sodium sulphate and evaporated. The title compound is identified from the residue on the basis of the Rf by flash chromatography (SiO2 60 F).
