Ethyl 5-(3-butyl-8-chloro-2,6-dioxo-2,3,6,7-tetrahydro-1H-purin-1-yl)pentanoate (74 mg, 0.2 mmol) and benzamidoxime (30 mg, 0.22 mmol) were suspended in dry EtOH (1 ml) and ethanolic sodium ethoxide (21% by wt., 0.111 ml, 0.3 mmol) was added. The mixture was gently warmed until solids were dissolved and then heated in the microwave reactor at 140° C. for 10 min. The mixture was then partitioned between EtOAc and 2M HCl and the organic phase dried (Na2SO4) and evaporated. MDAP afforded the pure title compound (40.7 mg).
