The initial derivatives prepared from I can also be useful intermediates for the synthesis of other explosive materials. For example [N,N-bis(2-fluoro-2,2-dinitroethyl)carbamyl]hydrazine (VI) was added to fluorodinitroacetonitrile to give 1-[N,N-bis(2-fluoro-2,2-dinitroethyl)carbamyl]-2-(2-fluoro-2,2-dinitroethylimino)hydrazine (IX). Compound IX was hydrolyzed to give 1-[N,N-bis(2-fluoro-2,2-dinitroethyl)carbamyl]-2-fluorodinitroacetyl hydrazine (X) and cyclized with trifluoroacetic anhydride to yield trifluoroacetyl-3-[bis(2-fluoro-2,2-dinitroethyl)amino]-5-fluorodinitromethyl-1,2,4-triazole (XI).
