Procedure
The 1-(4-nitrophenoxy)-2-[N-(3,4-dimethoxyphenethyl)-N-methylamino]ethane prepared in (2) above in an amount of 5.5 g (0.015 mol) was dissolved in methanol (200 ml) and ethyl acetate (200 ml) and, thereafter, 10% Pd/C (2 g) was added to the resulting reaction solution and the reaction mixture was stirred in hydrogen gas for 8 h, followed by filtration and concentration under vacuum to yield the end compound 1-(4-aminophenoxy)-2-[N-(3,4-dimethoxyphenethyl)-N-methylamino]ethane (5 g).
