1.01 g of maltose monohydrate (Sigma UK) was dissolved in 5 ml of deionized water and introduced into a 32 ml particle formation vessel through the intermediate nozzle passage, at a flow rate of 0.03 ml/min. The vessel was maintained at 250 bar and 70° C. Absolute ethanol was co-introduced into the vessel through the inner nozzle passage, at a rate of 0.4 ml/min, and supercritical CO2 through the outer passage at a rate of 9 ml/min. A free-flowing white powder was collected.
