Reaction Steps
Sodium hydroxide (1M, 40 ml) was added to a stirred suspension of 2-(2-trifluoromethyl-8-methoxyquinolin-5-yl)-1H-benzimidazole-5-carboxylic acid, methyl ester (1 g) in ethanol (40 ml) at room temperature. The reaction was heated to 80° C. for 4h and cooled to room temperature. The ethanol was removed in vacuo and the remaining aqueous phase acidified to pH 5 with glacial acetic acid. The resulting solid was collected by filtration and dried in vacuo to give the titled compound as a brown solid (0.88 g).
