A suspension of 9-chloro-5-hydroxy-7-phenylpyrimido[1,2-a][1,4]benzodiazepin-3(5H)-one in pyridine was stirred for 3 hours with succinic anhydride. The mixture was then poured in ice water, the solid collected on filter and recrystallized from methanol-water to give 9-chloro-5-hydroxy-7-phenylpyrimido[1,2-a][1,4]benzodiazepin-3(5H)-one hemisuccinate.
