Reaction Steps

To a solution of 9-chloro-5-hydroxy-7-(o-chlorophenyl)pyrimido[1,2-a][1,4]benzodiazepin-3(5H)-one in pyridine was added propionic anhydride. The mixture was allowed to stand at room temperature for 6 hours and was then poured into ice water. The solids thus produced were recovered by filtration and recrystallized from methanol to give 9-chloro-5-hydroxy-7-(o-chlorophenyl)pyrimido[1,2-a][1,4]benzodiazepin-3(5H)-one propionate.
