Procedure
1-(4-Chlorophenyl)-5-chloro-3-pentanone (6.95 g.) is added to a well stirred, ice-cooled solution of 10.5 g. of imidazole in 10 ml. of dimethylformamide. The solution is stirred for 8 hours at 0° C. and then poured into 150 ml. of water. The product is collected by filtration and recrystallized from cyclohexane to yield 1-(4-chlorophenyl)-5-(1-imidazolyl)-3-pentanone.
