Procedure
Two grams N-[3-propionamido(phenyl)]-3,3-dimethyl succinamic acid prepared by the general method above was dissolved in 25 ml tetrahydrofuran. The solution was stirred at room temperature and 0.45 g of isopropylamine dissolved in tetrahydrofuran was added dropwise. The reaction mixture was stirred for about 2.5 hours. Rotary evaporation yielded 2.2 g of the title product. This compound will be referred to as Compound No. 7.
