Procedure
A solution of 3.4 g of the product of Step A, 30 ml of toluene, 0.35 g of p-toluene sulfonic acid monohydrate was refluxed until gas evolution ceased and was then cooled to 0° C. and was filtered. The filter was washed with cold toluene and the filtrate was evaporated to dryness at 40° C. under reduced pressure to obtain 2.8 g of (1R,cis) 2,2-dimethyl-3(E)-[2-bromo-3-oxo-3-methoxy-propenyl]-cyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid.
