9.54 g (30 mmol) of (S)-8-chloro-11,12,13,13a-tetrahydro-9-oxo-9H-imidazo[1,5-a]pyrrolo[2,1-c][1,4]benzodiazepine-1-carboxylic acid and 6.32 g (39 mmol) of N,N'-carbonyldiimidazole in 50 ml of dry dimethylformamide are stirred at room temperature for 1 hour and at 50° for 1 hour. The mixture is subsequently poured into about 300 ml of water, the precipitated material is filtered off under suction, washed with water and dried up to constant weight. There is obtained (S)-1-[(8-chloro-11,12,13,13a-tetrahydro-9-oxo-9H-imidazo[1,5-a]pyrrolo[2,1-c][1,4]benzodiazepin-1-yl)carbonyl]imidazole of melting point 240°-241.5°.
