Reaction Steps
To a mixture of 8 ml of glacial acetic acid and 8 ml of acetyl chloride, was added 2.0 g of 4-(β-amidinoethenyl)phenol methanesulfonate. The mixture was heated with stirring under reflux for one hour. After cooling, the reaction mixture was mixed with ethyl ether to precipitate a white solid substance which was recrystallized from ethanol to yield 1.8 g of colorless needle crystals of 4-(β-amidinoethenyl)phenyl acetate methanesulfonate.
