The procedure of Example 6 was followed except that 0.15 g. (0.7 m mols) of Zn(OAc)2.2H2O was used instead of the Pb(OAc)2. 3H2O. The analysis of the product showed that 22% of the diphenyl ether was converted producing 10 m mols of dibenzofuran (90% selectivity).
