Procedure

A mixture 800 mg. (3.63 mmoles) of 4-(2-dimethylamino-4-pyridyl)imidazole-2-thiol, 2 g. of Raney nickel and 20 ml. of dimethylformamide was heated at 120° C. for 3.5 hours. The catalyst was filtered and the filtrate concentrated to an oil which solidified on treatment with ether. The product was purified by chromatographing on 10 g. of florisil using chloroform-methanol (9:1, v:v) as the eluent, 361 mg., m.p. 173°-173.5° C.
