6-Chloro-1,2-dihydro-2-oxocyclohepta[b]pyrrole-3-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (1.0 g, described in example 9) was hydrolyzed with 2 N aqueous NaOH (20 ml) under the conditions described for the hydrolysis in example 14 to give 6-chloro-1,2-dihydro-2-oxocyclohepta[b]pyrrole-3-carboxylic acid; mp 227° C. (dec); nmr (DMSO-d6) δ7.39-9.8 (m, 4H), 12.4 (s, 2H).
