1-(4-Methoxyphenyl)-5-methylisoquinoline was reacted successively in the same way as in steps (d) and (e) of Example 1 to afford 1-(4-methoxyphenyl)isoquinoline-5-acetonitrile as slightly yellow scales having a melting point of 130.5° to 132.0° C.
