Procedure

2N KOH(aq) (1 mL) was added to a solution of 26.2 (68 mg, 0.17 mmol) in EtOH (2 mL). The reaction was stirred at room temperature overnight and then poured into water. The aqueous mixture was acidified to pH=2 with 1N HCl(aq), and then extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with water, followed by brine. The organic layer was then concentrated under reduced pressure and the resulting residue was purified via radial chromatography (20% ethyl acetate in hexanes) to yield 60.3 mg (95%) of compound 26 as a colorless oil. LC/MSD m/e: 374.0 (M−H); 1H NMR (400 MHz) (acetone-d6) δ 8.05 (2H, d, J=8.0 Hz), 7.56 (2H, t, J=8.0 Hz), 7.40 (3H, t, J=8.0 Hz), 7.06 (2H, d, J=8.0 Hz), 5.28 (2H, s), 4.05 (1H, m), 2.70 (2H, m), 2.44 (3H, s), 1.80 (3H, s).
