Add sodium carbonate (2.0 g, 18.5 mmol) to a mixture of 3-iodophenylacetonitrile (4.5 g, 18.5 mmol) and hydroxylamine hydrochloride (1.3 g, 18.5 mmol) in 10:1 EtOH:H2O (11 mL). Heat the reaction mixture to 50° C. for 2 days. Cool to RT, then filter to remove the solids. Concentrate the filtrate to afford the title compound (4.94 g). LC-MS (m/e): 277 (M+1).
