5-(2-Chloro-4-methoxycarbonylmethyl-phenyl)-3-phenyl-isoxazole-4-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester 59 (25 mg, 0.06 mmol) is dissolved in trifluoroacetic acid (1 mL) and stirred at room temperature for 2 hours. Then the solvent is evaporated and the remainder is dried on high vacuum to afford 5-(2-Chloro-4-methoxycarbonylmethyl-phenyl)-3-phenyl-isoxazole-4-carboxylic acid 60 as a white solid: 1H-NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ=7.62 (m, 2H), 7.38 (m, 5H), 7.24 (m, 1H), 3.64 (s, 3H), 3.59 (s, 2H). MS calculated for C19H15ClNO5 (M+H+) 372.1, found 372.1.
