A mixture of 33 parts of cis-4-amino-5-chloro-2-methoxy-N-(3-methoxy-4-piperidinyl)benzamide, 30 parts of (1,1-dimethylethyl) methyl(4-oxobutyl)carbamate, 3-parts of a solution of thiophene in methanol 4% and 400 parts of methanol was hydrogenated at normal pressure and at room temperature with 5 parts of platinum-on-charcoal catalyst 5%. After the calculated amount of hydrogen was taken up, the catalyst was filtered off and the filtrate was evaporated, yielding 45.1 parts (100%) of (1,1-dimethylethyl) cis-[4-[4-[(4-amino-5-chloro-2-methoxybenzoyl)amino]-3-methoxy-1-piperidinyl]butyl]methylcarbamate as a residue (interm. 8).
